General Hunting

Basic questions about hunting practices, techniques, and general information that every hunter should know.

The best time of day to hunt deer is relative to your locations and past observational history. To understand the best time of the day, keep track of observations and trail cam images where you hunt. Over time, you will begin to see patterns. You can use the Movement Insights section of TrophyTracks Pro to see a chart for the movement per hour of the day.

Most hunters know that wind can affect deer movement and your stand location is best suited downwind of approaching animals to help cover your scent. You can use the Movement Insights section of TrophyTracks pro to see a wind speed and direction chart for each location.

The best way to predict precise animal movement at your own locations is to begin keeping a good journal at those locations. By incorporating trail cam images as well as in person live observations at your locations, you build a historic record of all movement. By using your past journal data and the future weather forecast, TrophyPredict AI blends the chances of prediction to a movement probability. Choose a day and time with the highest probability to hunt those locations.

Weather conditions affect game movement, but it all really depends on exactly where and when you hunt, what you hunt, and the time of the year. The advantage of TrophyTracks is you can build your journals over time to see how the conditions affect you locally.

Still Hunting, often referred to as stalking, is moving slowly and quietly, stopping to scan and observe game. Stand Hunting involves setting up a permanent or temporary stand, such as a tree stand, and patiently waiting for game to approach within a shooting distance.

TrophyTracks - the free hunting journal is another tool in your toolbox for creating live and post hunt journals. While others are very good at mapping technology, TrophyTracks takes it one step further and allows users to pin their exact locations, and begin making a comprehensive journal, with entries including weather, observations, and even trial camera images.

Yes, for TrophyTracks, this is offline mode. You can still see the maps, pin locations on your map, make quick observations, and make full journals. The only items you won't see live will be weather and TrophyTracks Pro for the predictions and AI. Once you log back into TrophyTracks on cell service or WiFi, your journals will sync.

Yes, moon phases are being logged per observation and harvest. The sunrise and sunset is also being recorded for your Journals.

The important weather details are being saved per observation, field note, and harvest. Temperature, current conditions, wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure, humidity, sunrise, sunset, and moonphase are being saved in your journals.

Hunting App

Questions about how TrophyTracks integrates with your hunting experience and enhances your time in the field.

There are two options. The first is to make Quick Observations. The intent with Quick Observations is to quickly add trail cam images, or just field notes while in the field. The second is to make a New Journal, this starts a new "hunt" and allows you to make numerous observations, add one or more pictures, field notes, and anything else relevant for the duration of the time that you are hunting or in the field. The advantage of making new Journals is you can be precise with your observations and pins on the map - hence making your heat maps better - and have your entire hunting story captured in one journal - making it easier to look back upon over time.

From the Map page, click on the plus button, and add Location Pin. You can add Blind, Food Plot, Stand or Trail cams to your location. To edit saved locations, click on the Edit Pin icon in the top left of the maps. Here you can edit the names, or delete pins.

Yes, when you start a new Journal, TrophyTracks provides the weather information for the selected location and the 7 day forecast. With TrophyTracks Pro, you can also filter per location to see current and future forecasts. The advantage with TrophyTracks Pro is TrophyPredict AI will allow users to click through all the future forecasted days and times to provide you with a probability of game movement and estimated number of observations per species.

The best possible way to predict game movement is to keep a journal of past observations and hunts at the locations you hunt. TrophyTracks Pro and our AI solutions help predict movement based on probabilities. We do this by combining past journals (historic records at that location) and future weather forecasts to produce a movement probability through TrophyPredict AI. We also use TrophyGuide AI to help hunters select the best day and time to get out into the field based on the same information.

You can use the Filter on the Journals Page to find exactly what you are looking for.

TrophyTracks allows users to upload photos and videos to their journals as a quick observation or during a Journal entry. Users can also choose to post the pictures and video to the TrophyTracks feed, or keep their photos private.

TrophyTracks has three different AI solutions in the app. The first is TrophyRecall, and this can be utilized post a hunt to analyze the data collected to see how it relates to past hunts. Any of the information presented to the user can be quickly added as a note. The second is TrophyPredict AI, which focuses on providing users probability of game movement and estimated number of observations per game species, which is location specific and can change per time of the day or future forecast. The third is TrophyGuide AI, which searches through the 7-Day forecast to provide users with the optimal time to hunt, and conditions to avoid.

Trail Cam data can be entered through Quick Observations. Users can add trail cam data with or without pictures, too. If you are using a cellular trail cam app, you can click the Share icon within the other app, and then choose to share it with the TrophyTracks app. As soon as you share it to TrophyTracks, the photo will appear in a Quick Observation card, all you need to do is specify the location, animal species, notes, and date / time of that image to quickly save it. This can be done in less than 30 seconds.

Yes, Heat maps can be toggled on / off via the main map page for Pro users. TrophyTracks Pro users can also see heat maps on the Pro page if you filter per a location or a date range, which tends to be more useful information than looking at it on the main map.

Data & Strategy Questions

Learn how to use your hunting data to develop better strategies and improve your success rate.

You can name specific bucks in the app by using the Notes. Then, you can go to your list of Journals and filter for that name to be presented to all the journals with that specific buck.

Keeping a good journal of observations and harvests is the best thing you can do. The advantage of TrophyTracks is the ability to keep records at the locations you actually hunt.

TrophyTracks Pro is the key to analyzing past hunting data. Users can see Movement Insight charts for the time of the day, temperature, and wind speed / direction - which really helps you analyze all of your spots, either as a whole, or individually per location you hunt.

Each time you finish a journal, you are asked to rate your hunt. If you had an exceptional day with plenty of observations and maybe even harvests, you can indicate that it was a 5-star day. The past journals that are rated highly help the TrophyGuide AI and TrophyPredict AI because they are weighted more heavily.

The more journals you add, the more data and stats you have, hence the better the movement predictions will be for your area. It's nearly impossible to predict movement precisely, but the next best closest thing is to use TrophyTracks early season, during the season, and post season to continue to build the number of journals and quick observations you make. Movement predictions are based on your own past data and future forecasts.

Journaling & Data Entry

Everything about logging hunts, recording observations, and maintaining detailed hunting records.

Yes! TrophyTracks lets you create live journals and quick entries in real time during your hunt—or log everything later at your convenience. If you are Still hunting or Walking, the map will show GPS progress during your hunt, and be saved on the map when viewing the past journal.

You can log animal sightings, harvests, trail cam photos, notes, weather conditions, location data. If you are hunting or observing deer, you can keep a journal of sex, antler size, points per side, and indicate if you feel the animal has a disease.

Map & Location Features

Questions about mapping functionality, location tracking, and geographical features in TrophyTracks.

Absolutely. Use pins to mark any location—blinds, food plots, trail cams—and easily create journals for those spots.

Yes, you can filter by location and view a complete history of all hunts tied to that pin.
